What is Christmas without a festive sweater? Since the Eighties, brightly coloured jumpers with holiday motifs have become synonymous with the season — now, they’re just as likely worn to work as they are to a party. So engrained are they within the modern, cultural psyche of what constitutes a British Christmas, that the iconic festive film, Love Actually, is essentially an homage to the Christmas jumper, with countless intarsia motifs and cable knits.
Launching in October to align with Wool Month, this latest initiative in low-impact manufacturing utilises recycled merino yarns. This regenerated wool will be incorporated into all of our forthcoming collections from October 2024 onwards.

John Smedley is delighted to announce its partnership with British mural artist Melissa White, as it proudly marks its 240th anniversary. Unveiled at London Craft Week, the collaboration is a celebration of legacy and longevity, paying homage to the artisanship, heritage, and hand work that defines the company and its core values. Manifesting as a floor-to-ceiling painting, the artwork respects John Smedley’s past and present — a fitting tribute as it looks towards its future.
