Last night was a proud moment for John Smedley as we were featured in BBC Four’s Fabric of Britain, alongside the fabulous Kaffe Fassett and Coco Chanel.

This fascinating documentary is a must see, not only for the great shots of the John Smedley factory, but also for a historic insight of knitting through the 20th century. From high end fashion to the traditional craft, you’ll be reminded of those scratchy jumpers from grandma and the impractical woolen swimwear!

With a peak into our archive and first hand viewing of the oldest knitting machines in action, Fabric of Britain is a great reminder of how far knitwear has come.
