John Smedley's extra-fine New Zealand Merino wool is specially bred by selected wool growers on the alpine pastures of the South Island. It's a soft, sumptuous yarn that's naturally warm, comfortable and easy to maintain. In 1995 we began a unique sourcing programme with a specially selected number of wool growers in New Zealand which we still maintain today. It means we can trace our knitwear and control its provenance.

John Smedley continues to expand and innovate. Our latest collections are some of our best ever and we continue to break new ground. However, we only move forward by understanding and holding on to the importance of provenance. That applies to John Smedley as a company and the garments we create. It helps make us who we are and reminds us of our commitment to creating only the highest quality collections.

Washing is a vital part of our production process. We don't waste water or source it from dwindling resources. Instead the water we use to create John Smedley knitwear comes from three underground springs that rise from the millstone grit of the Derbyshire Peak District National Park. Its softness and purity helps create the luxurious feel of our garments and enhances the shrink resilience.
