What’s in store for 2012….

18th January 2012 | Colour, Design, Style | Leave a comment

With the weather up to all sorts, it’s been difficult to know what to wear over the past few weeks. With our Autumn/Winter 2011 sale offering a warm option for colder days, an introduction of Spring/Summer styles indicate John Smedley’s Sea Island Cotton will soon be the knitwear of choice. With this, I thought it was about time to talk about what looks are going to be a hit for Spring/Summer 2012.

Guys will be shying away from plunging necklines with round necks making a BIG come back. Our extra-fine New Zealand Merino wool sweater ‘Lyndhurst’ is the perfect answer to this trend, soon to be available in a wide range of colours. To take on this trend and make it an even bigger hit wear in Spring Summer 12’s hottest colours, pastel blues, creams and pinks.

Braye in Silver - Coming soon

For women, a trend of contouring in knitwear with strategically placed stripes and motifs help to accentuate and flatter the figure. Our striped sweaters which are soon to launch see varied stripe detail which create visual interest and compliment the figure beautifully.

Lace is also big for 2012 not only in knitwear but footwear and accessories. A range of styles in the new collection offer a feminine alternative to knitwear with lace placement adding beautiful detail to classic styles that have been bought bang up to date.

Style Diane in Dark Ash coming soon.

Be sure to keep an eye out on the website for the rest of the Spring/Summer 2012 to go live!

A fantastic and fitting location for the launch, the Museum of London played host to the new Autumn Winter 2012 collection. This is always a really exciting event as it is the first time the collection is revealed. A beautiful colour palette and introduction of new styles, marks the beginning of a new season for John Smedley. Here are a couple of pictures that give a tase of what is to come!

Autumn Winter 2012 Presenter Printing

Whilst we are in the midst of Autumn Winter 2011, our designers have completed next year’s Autumn Winter 2012 range. As John Smedley fans, we wanted to share an exclusive sneak peak, as the designers took a trip to the printers to complete the final stages of the sales presenters. Our menswear designer Gemma and Womenswear designer Pip worked alongside The Lift Agency to produce a presenter that was clear and concise for numerous markets around the world.

The images below show a couple of stages in the process including colour checking and all the pages stacked ready to cut and bind.

All-Buttoned Up

23rd November 2010 | Music, Style, TV | Leave a comment

Olly Mur’s performance on the X Factor last night got us thinking of only one thing. How amazing he looked wearing his John Smedley ‘Dorset’ all-buttoned up.  Bang on this season’s trend, celebrities and catwalks have taken a u-turn on low plunging necklines and maximum cleavage opting for a smarter, sophisticated look. Seen in men’s and women’s wear, this Autumn/Winter is all about high, buttoned-up collars.

Men, try an all-buttoned t-shirt such as Isis for a relaxed, casual feel and Dorset for a smarter look. This trend is perfect for all ages and is sure to keep your warm for the cold winter ahead.

Ladies, this trend works perfectly with the military trend or teamed up with your favourite leather for an edgy look. ‘Agatha’ is slim fitted and a comfortable alternative to a formal shirt. The geek chic trend has been seen everywhere from quirky spectacles, braces to blazers. Agatha is an essential piece to take you through to next season with our long socks being the ideal way to complete this look. ‘Lumen’ and our stripy socks ‘Phyllis’ also make the perfect stocking fillers!

The Cardigan

The ever changing weather means getting dressed in the morning is all that bit more difficult. We’ve spoke about layering before and cardigans are the perfect way to complete any look. Cardigans are set to take over every male wardrobe this Autumn/Winter with the popularity of the cardigan set to grow.

People of all ages are able to take on this trend, choosing lighter cardigans that can be worn underneath your coat or a heavier cardigan to wear over a t-shirt. ‘Harding’ our luxurious merino wool cardigan, has a collar and is perfect to wear over t-shirts or pullovers as a jacket.

This is a classic cardigan that is a true investment piece. For a younger look, you can try ‘Marmaduke’ made from merino wool.  Countless features across editorials prove that ‘Harding’ is a hit this season and ‘Daimler’ a staple in creating the ‘preppy’ look. Hurry and get yours fast and you can get your hands on the cardigan that everyone’s lusting over.
