Brand Watch: Silken Favours

17th May 2013 | General, Pic of the Day, Press, Style | Leave a comment

Our Spring / Summer 2013 campaign was shot in the heart of Mayfair, London. The team worked with 7 models to create individual looks for the different collections within the range.

Our rich heritage and roots in the Derbyshire countryside is always at the centre of everything we do and the focus in this shoot was to make sure that the accessories we used, were an extension of this. Que, Silken Favours. Although this brand may not have been around for 229 years, the products are playful, made from beautiful silk and most importantly made in the UK. Creator, Vicki Murdock  is a print designer who uses pen and ink techniques to create the designs. The range features an assortment of scarves,  cushions and soon, shirts*excited face* in a selection of quirky prints.

The Silken Favours scarf is styled here with our 70& cashmere / 30% silk sweater, Rochelle. Danielle wears the scarf twisted around her neck, for a modest injection of colour against the silver sweater.

Ok, so I’m slightly obssessed with the Silken Favours cushions, meet Stanley…don’t even get me started on Bob.

Blast from the past

After hearing the news that David Beckham is retiring from football, today’s picture from the archive seemed somewhat appropriate. Beckham has hit the headlines over the years, however the fashion moment that stood out to me was when David was snapped with Victoria in matching leather outfits circa 1999.

This image from our archive sees this happy couple wearing John Smedley sweaters and his and hers matching trousers. (Perhaps not as  tabloid worthy as a matching all leather ensemble, however still well syncronised) The round neck sweater worn by the man, is one of our most iconic styles that remains in the collection today with some minor refinements.  Hunter is made from the finest Merino wool and features rib hems and cuffs for a neat fit. The shirt style worn here by the woman is still popular and has transpired in our current collection to shirt style, Tanya.

My weekend outfit

12th April 2013 | Fun, General, Pic of the Day, Style | Leave a comment

It’s Friday and as the weekend draws closer, my thoughts can’t help but turn to weekend plans. With temperatures set to be heating up this weekend (at long last) I can finally consider wearing a dress with shock horror, no tights! Tomorrow I am visiting Brighton for the first time and I’m really excited about the beautiful things I’ve been told to see and do. My recent purchase of the Zaina dress from the Spring / Summer 2013 collection will be making an appearance so I decided to give you a taste of how I will style it tomorrow.

Back by popular demand, John Smedley launches an exclusive John Smedley X Umbro Shirt ‘Track’. Umbro is renowned worldwide as a football brand, but over its 88 year history it has been involved in many aspects of British sport. Re-tracing Umbro’s history to 1940s, Umbro delivered the Tangeru vest worn by the British athletes. Fast forward 64 years, and a second collection with John Smedley, has spawned a four piece range inspired by British athletes past and present.

Roger Federer wearing what we believe is John Smedley’s most iconic long sleeved, 3 button polo shirt, Dorset in a current Rolex campaign. Identifiable by the fully fashioned shoulder detail and fashioned collar, Dorset seen here in silver, is as classic as it gets. Made from extra-fine Merino wool, Dorset is a fine gauge shirt with a rib hem and turn back rib cuffs for a smart finish. It’s nice to see Rolex’s strap line is ‘united by setting a standard to which all others aspire’ – something which applies to all of our knitwear!

Paul Weller not wearing one but TWO John Smedley sweaters, he really does look the bizz. Weller has styled his Blackwell cardigan in Vintage Denim with the 1002HGRB shirt, a cracking combination. Paul completed this look with ‘Stanhope’ loafers from Delicious Junction, a brand that credit the relationship between music and fashion to the very heart of their business, definitely worth checking them out.
